Bodegas Nabal is located in the northernmost area of the Ribera del Duero, exactly in Gumiel de Izan, which is just the last town, to the north, of the Ribera del Duero in Burgos.
The climate of the Ribera del Duero could be considered “Humid continental climate” characterized by summer aridity, prolonged insolation and good maturation. The absence of rains favors the low yields and the organoleptic qualities of the tempranillo grape. The thermal contrast between day and night facilitates the development of all parameters of grape quality (accumulation of sugars, grade, acidity, synthesis of polyphenols, coloring matter… etc).
It is a region of highlands in which the vines are often planted in loamy clayey sandy soils or roughly limestone and deep pebbles.
The predominant variety is Tempranillo in 80% and the rest is complemented by the varieties Merlot, Garnacha Tinta and Albillo.
The vineyard areas are located near the winery, mainly Gumiel de Izan and others such as, La Aguilera, Sotillo de la Ribera, Gumiel de Mercado, Quintana del Pidio, Baños, Valdeande…
Gumiel de Izán, the spectacular village that allows you to walk through ‘Petra’ without leaving Spain. According to National Geographic, Gumiel de Izán has its own ‘Spanish Petra’: the Church of Santa María, which was built between the 14th and 17th centuries and is the town’s most important monument.
The town of Burgos has many attractions that make it a perfect destination for a day out. In fact, its historic quarter was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 2003. For this reason, it is well worth strolling through its streets and enjoying the popular architecture.
