THE SURROUNDINGS

Bodegas Nabal is located in the northernmost area of the Ribera del Duero, specifically in Gumiel de Izán, which is precisely the last town to the north of the Burgos section of the Ribera del Duero.

The climate of the Ribera del Duero could be considered “high-altitude Mediterranean,” characterized by summer aridity, prolonged sunshine, and good ripening conditions. The lack of rainfall favors low yields and enhances the organoleptic qualities of the Tempranillo grape. The temperature contrast between day and night supports the development of all grape quality parameters (sugar accumulation, alcohol content, acidity, polyphenol synthesis, color compounds, etc.).

It is a region of high lands where vineyards are often planted in sandy clay-loam or stony soils, sufficiently calcareous and deep.

The predominant variety is Tempranillo, accounting for 80%, complemented by Merlot, Garnacha Tinta, and Albillo.

The vineyards are located near the winery, mainly in Gumiel de Izán, as well as in La Aguilera, Sotillo de la Ribera, Gumiel de Mercado, Quintana del Pidio, Baños, Valdeande, and other nearby areas.

Gumiel de Izán is a spectacular town where you can stroll through a “Petra” without leaving Spain. According to National Geographic, Gumiel de Izán has its own “Spanish Petra”: the Church of Santa María, built between the 14th and 17th centuries, which is the town’s most important monument.

This town in Burgos offers many attractions, making it a perfect destination for a day trip. In fact, its historic center was declared a Historic-Artistic Ensemble in 2003. For this reason, it is worth wandering through its streets and enjoying the local architecture.
